Given the political and economic climate we’re in, people in America are becoming ever more polarized in their points of view. As a result, respectful and productive civic engagement is going the way of the dinosaurs.
Not only is this trend disappointing – it’s damaging.
However, all hope is not gone. Ridgewater College is hosting a Civic Engagement Forum on its Willmar campus on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the campus cafeteria. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome and participation is free of charge.
The forum aims to leverage the assets of higher education institutions and communities, building partnerships and educating students to develop creative solutions to pressing public issues.
Participants in the forum will:
- Learn and practice the skill of engaging in productive one-to-one conversations
- Share ideas and strategies for addressing issues of common interest
- Leave with new connections and possibilities for constructive action
If you think that there’s room to improve our civic discourse and would like to learn more, please make a point to join us on campus on Nov. 1. We look forward to the conversation!
The event is sponsored by Ridgewater, the West Central Integration Collaborative and Minnesota Campus Compact.
